Top 20 Recommended Restaurants in Solo City, Central Java 2017/2018

I just found out that the culinary tour in Solo or Surakarta are so many. We managed to encapsulate 20 delicious restaurants in Solo that you can try. Despite the good food is relative, some say tasty and the other said less tasty, so it all depending on the tongue of people that enjoy it.

Hikaru Dining



Good place, there are soo many choices, start from gyoza, sushi. ramen, don, and some sweet nice desert, Worth to try, the place is relaxing and had a good ambience, reasonable price.

Rumah Teh Ndoro Donker


Ndoro Dongker Tea House is one of the most love places that I have ever come. Located in the middle of tea garden, make it so perfect. I believe you will feel so happy if you come to here. The staff is so nice and warm, the food? Of course so perfect with the atmosphere. I guess you will love this place too.

Restoran Adem Ayem


Gudeg is made from young unripe jack fruit (Javanese: gori, Indonesian: nangka muda) boiled for several hours with palm sugar, andcoconut milk. Additional spices include garlic, shallot, candlenut, coriander seed,galangal, bay leaves, and teak leaves, the latter giving a reddish-brown color to the dish.

Javanesse Fried Chicken.. so crunchy and swet.. againt ! And drink.. u can try Beras Kencur with ice.. so fresh..

Cafe Tiga Tjeret


The place was comfortable. Although the name cafe but the menu is traditional such as 'wrap rice' and other variations. Similar to traditional street food called 'Angkringan'  It feels good, affordable prices. Perfect place for relaxing while you hanging out with friends, or family members.

Kusuma Sari Restaurant


This restaurant has been around since I was a kid. The taste and the atmosphere is well-maintained. My favorites are the croquettes, steaks and 'selat'. Repeatedly here but never bored.

Conejo Mexican Fusion


We felt very privileged to find Canejo restaurant so near our hotel (Ibis Styles and Novotel) during our month long stay in Solo. We liked it so much that we ate there every day! The food is always fresh, amazingly crunchy chicken, very clean and crisp lettuce and gourmet drip coffee at bargain prices. Highly recommended!

Marakez Cafe n Resto


The atmosphere of the cafe was pretty convenient, there is a place in the front garden, in the home and backyard. A menu that is served here influenced Middle Eastern flavours with a wide variety of processed beef, goats and sheep.

Diamond International Restaurant


This a Chinese restaurant that is opened 24 hours a day. We stopped by for lunch and had the chicken broth soup and the vegetable broth soup. Both were delicious. For the main courses we had a delicious fried fish in a nice sauce, a tofu and dark chicken dish, a papaya chicken breast dish with no sause, a vegan tofu with vegetables and sauce dish, rice and a lechee hard, white pudding dessert. The papaya chicken dish was my least favorite because I thought it was a little dry. The staff does not speak English so at times this was challenging. They do not have wine and only have beer, juices, coffee, tea. We did try their avocado, chocolate and icecream smoothie which was very tasty. The service was okay.

Home Cafe and Resto


This place serves a very cozy restaurant atmosphere, beautiful and instagrammable! Lots of photo spots here that you can make the most of your social media. In addition, of course, the restaurant serves a wide range of specialty foods you should try, one of which was a mini pizza.

Saffron Resto and Meatshop


Western food restaurant with a authentic taste and luxurious dishes but with rational prices. This restaurant  is very small so if you come late at dinner then you will most likely sit outside (terraces) or even got no table at all.

The menu is quite varied and taste good in the mouth. Food display is decorated with a hefty techniques.

Omah Sinten


This place is located right in front of Pura Mangkunegaran Surakarta, one of the famous tourist attraction in Solo. Bringing the concept of old Javanese, from both the building and its food, the restaurant has its own allure. People who come here actually seemed to "return to the village."

Goela Klapa


The location is in the center of town, Manahan. The menu is pretty much and interesting. It's taste pretty good. Suitable for small scale meetings and seminars. The place is clean. Nice service. Will come back again!

Waroeng Spesial Sambal “SS”


For those who like it spicy and less money, the restaurant is highly recommended. The restaurant that has a lot of branches, serves many kinds of chili sauce and a drink, but for those who don't like spicy, there are various vegetables and side dishes ranging from tempe, tofu, chicken, catfish, bawal, snapper, etc. Don't forget to try the spicy squid, fried eggplant and grilled eggplant.

Solo's Bistro Restaurant


The menu is diverse ranging from Chinese food to Italian food. The price offered is quite cheap but the taste and presentation keep-quality.

Lazy Cow Restaurant


Spent the lunch in the 2nd floor with good ambience, strong points are quality of steak - Wagyu Meltique black pepper and beverages meet the expectation, clean, quick service, proactive waiters and strategic location which very easy to find the restaurant. Thats good experience having lunch at your restaurant namely Lazy Cow. Recommended to whom love steak

Jackstar Resto & Cafe


It's cheap ... suited to hang out and get some coffee. Close to the city centre and shopping centre

The taste of smash chicken, really wonderful, spicy onion sauce, savory.

Soga Resto dan Lounge


The location is in a complex with Danar Hadi Batik Museum. The building occupies an ancient well maintained, clean, and neat. This place is perfect for dining with friends and family.

The service are very friendly and fun. Food and beverage menu is offered in the form of Javanese and modern menu with unique names. It tastes good. The price of it is kind of expensive, but comparable to the taste and the service provided.

Pecel Solo - Waroeng Tempo Doeloe


It's almost all about the place itself. Just being there is already glorious. The building, the fence, the tile, the big doors, the windows, all the details gives a feeling of Javanese fine dining.

The menus including all the Javanese must eat like gudeg, liwet, rawon, pecel, garang asem, sop buntut etc; also snacks like gethuk lindri, sosis solo, tempe tahu bacem, tempe mendoan etc; and rare traditional drink like 'coffee beer'.

Live music even in weekdays with wide array of songs, are added value. Looking forward to be back with the entire family

Ralana Restaurant


Very convinient place for eating and business meeting. Nice atmosphere with difference kind of food. Javanese, European and Chinese food. Definitely will stop by on my next trip.

Bale Branti Tea-Art-Culture


 Bale Branti located just before Ndoro Donker if you are traveling from Solo. The place not that beautiful compared to its rival because Bale Branti isn't located in the middle of tea plantation.

Food-price was good enough, 7/10 and service also good enough and fast, considering the place is quiet crowded at that time.

Want a savory and sweet? The crazy spicy cuisine? Or addictive delicious foods at President Jokowi subscription places? You can come to here, in Solo or people called Surakarta, Central Java. The formation of delicacy food so difficult to find in other cities.

Here I will only review the original foods in Solo area that already exists since a long time. "Therefore, while to Solo, try to not lose this moments!

Soto Gading 1


Soto that being sold here is the chicken soup with the thick broth, so it guaranteed to pamper you.

Mbok Galak Satay


The menu of processed meat goats is worth a visit for culinary lovers. Its location in the northern part of the Solo, on the Mangun Sarkoro street no. 122, Banjarsari, Sumber. Specialty is Buntel satay. The best part of Buntel sate exist in fat (lard). Mutton chop which is wrapped.

Gudeg Ceker Bu Kasno


Inside the stall, Mrs. Kasno seated and ready to serve the buyer. In her presence there are basin's contains gudeg, fried sambal, chicken claw, and a variety of side dishes such as chicken, boiled egg, tofu and tempe. Uniquely, in stalls there is no table and chairs. You can eat while you sit adjacent.

Tengkleng Mbak Diah


This is indeed very famous culinary in Solo. The goat meat processed for long, a minimum of four to five hours. Often many visitors book Tengkleng Mbak Diah as souvenirs of the Solo. There is an order to be brought into Singapore.

Selat Mbak Lies


There are two types of the Selat, the Selat Solo or often Selat Bestik and Selat Galantine. For the Selat Galantine is further divided into 2 kinds, there are Selat Galantin tomato sauce gravy and Selat Galantine fresh gravy. To be able to enjoy this Selat Galantine , cost about 10 thousand rupiah for medium portion. For a large portion of range between 22 to 29 thousand rupiah.

Tahu Kupat Solihin


This stall has been founded in 1977 and is recognized as the best-known tahu kupat in Solo. The price for one portion was 7,000 rupiah and 10,000 rupiah if you want to add an egg.

Mbah Karto Fried Chicken


Fried chicken using young free-range chicken was 4-6 month, or often called Kemanggang chicken.

Savory fried chicken and served with fresh vegetables such as  cucumbers, long beans, bean sprouts, basil leaves. As the mainstay, the customers are given two options: spicy sambal sauce and onion blondho (black sauce). For blondho sauce, this made the nuts with a little red pepper.

Serabi Notosuman (Notosuman Pancake)


There are also Notosuman pancake which is just as legendary. You can get it at Mohammad Yamin street No. 28, Solo. Pancake already exists since the year 1920-40s!

Sate Kambing Hj. Bejo (Goat Satay)


Sate Buntel (resembles satay) is a typical Solo food, made from minced goat meat wrapped in goat fat, then burned so called Sate Buntel. Buntel is the Java language for the wrapping.

While enjoying the food, you will be entertained with songs in the Java language. The stall owner provides two singers that sing to entertain you.

Sate Kere Yu Rebi


Tempe gembus became the main ingredient manufacture sate kere. Although it looks simple, sate kere is also the President's Joko Widodo favorite foods. The dish made from the leftover dregs making tempe. After marinated in herbs and burned on top of the coals, sate kere is served with a spicy sweet peanut sauce. Bebek Goreng Pak Ndut


The price of fried duck in Pak Ndut restaurant relatively cheap. Taste was delicious with a variety of menu, would spoil your tongue.

The choices was duck sauce, green sambal duck, sangan, crumbles, crispy, black pepper, sweet and sour. All menus typical of Central Java.

In contrast to the duck menu/chicken fried duck in general, Pak Ndut has a soft texture and savory tastes. You can choose a three of super spicy chili sauce, such as sambal ijo, sambal korek and sambal sangan.

Es Dawet Telasih Bu Dermi


The most delicious place to drink this is located in Pasar Gede Solo which of course is very easy for you to search.

You can get ice, telasih seeds, cendol, tape ketan, black rice and gruel.

Soto Seger Hj. Fatimah


There are two kinds of menu i.e. meat soto and chicken soto. Presented range from small bowl and plate, just order according your taste. Available side dishes that are served at tables like tofu, tempe, fritters, vegetable fritter, sosis solo basah, fried sosis, karak, crackers, chicken satay, cow skin satay, sate ati quail eggs satay and others.

Sate Ayam Pak Banjir Kampung Baru (Chicken Satay)


Stall of Pak Banjir's is a simple food stall which stands above the sidewalk, you can enjoy the satay while looking vehicles that passed by. This satay stall managed by Pak Banjir family. The special from this satay are the big chunk; small egg satay themselves are also available with a great large size.

Pecel Bu Kis


This place serves Pecel with sambal which had a unique flavour.

Warung Pecel Bu Kis can you visit at 7 am until 2 pm.. If you are interested in coming, please park on the back of the state court.

Nasi Liwet Wongso Lemu


Nasi Liwet served in a 'pincuk' or banana leaf folded conical to bring a taste of Java.

Spicy chayote and shredded 'opor' chicken, friend chicken liver and gizzard, steamed eggs and a boiled egg and savory thick coconut milk or commonly referred to as ' kumut ' add a scrumptious taste Nasi Liwet.

Harjo Bestik Bakmi


Provides a main menu from Bestik (beef steak) Solo and gravy Jawa Noodle.

The place was already pretty well known because it tastes that are unique and not disappoint visitors who come to enjoy its cuisine. Warung Makan Harjo Bestik and Bakmi Jawa is located at East Dr. Rajiman street, near Pasar Kembang or at Danukusuman RT 01/IX Serengan Solo, Central Java.

Brongkos Masja Baron


This stalls provide not less than 25 different types of cuisine, all the menu is traditional dishes of the village. Stall pioneered in 1975, was given the name Mas-Ja because it provided 100 percent Javanese cuisine. (Mas-Ja stands for Masakan Jawa). There are sayur lodeh terong, lodeh keluwih, asem-asem kikil, sayur asem, sayur bobor bayam, mangut tengiri

Bakso Kadipolo (Kadipolo Meatball)


It feels incomplete when go to Solo and haven't eat the food like this one. Meatball is a favorite food that always exist in all parts of the city of Solo, so it's no wonder Solo quite famous as the city of meatballs.

Timlo Sastro


Timlo Sastro is located in the back corner of Pasar Gede. People are more familiar with the name Timlo Balong due the location of Pasar Gede is around Kampung Balong.

This flavors like soto. However, there are also some people who call the taste of soup or even like combined of soup and soto.

Es Krim Tentrem


Solo had a legendary ice cream shop namely ice cream Tentrem. Home made ice cream shop is located at Urip Sumoharjo street and has been popular since 1952.

Some of the most popular menu are tutti fruity, rum ‘n coffee, robin rose and rainbow.

Martabak Markobar


Markobar stands for Martabak Kota Barat that was founded by Gibran in Solo in 2015. This restauran have three branches in Solo, but now also can be enjoyed by people in Semarang, Jakarta, Yogyakarta and Makassar.

Markobar has a special 8 - 16 flavors with toppings that vary, ranging from Ovaltine, Toblerone chocolate, matcha, and others.

Es Gempol Pleret Pak Suhar


Ee gempol (Gempol ice) which gempol here is food made from rice flour and for pleret made from rice flour and mix it with the brown sugar that of course naturally very sweet and fresh taste.

Gempol and pleret later mix by using ice cubes, liquid coconut milk and palm sugar that naturally produces a very refreshing taste.

Susu Shi Jack (Shi Jack Milk)


Opened starting from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., Shi Jack Milk is able to make the hearts of his fans to keep coming to enjoy the variety of fresh milk dishes there.

Pasar Jongke (Jongke Gift Market)


Visit city of Solo/Surakarta does not match if not bring gift with Solo characteristic.

Solo has a wide range of typical snacks who does not exist in other cities, such as cashew, abon, claw, eels, and many more. In this market, Solo travelers can choose a wide range of gift shop from a wide selection.

Ngopi Serius Cafe


The cafe building have classic nuance. Tables, chairs, and its walls are made of wooden craft. Various displays mounted in a room trying to introduce the visitors to the diversity of types of coffee in Indonesia.
